Salta and Northwest Argentina

After one day in Córdoba, we felt like we had seen enough and could safely move on to Salta where many wonderful landscapes and views awaited us. We took a 13 hour bus and arrived late at night. The next day we talked to several other travelers and booked two tours in the area, one to see Cafayate, a town about 4 hours south of Salta, known for its vineyards and Torrontes (a great white wine) with some spectacular scenery on the way down, and the other to see the Salinas Grandes, a large salt flat. There are far too many pictures of each of those for this post, so they each get their own dedicated space in the following posts.

Below are some pictures of Salta. It's a cute little town and one of its largest industries is agriculture, specifically tobacco. We met some great friends at our hostel in Salta and got a chance to relax the day before our two tours. We walked around Salta and also took the teleforico up Cerro San Bernardo to see the great view of Salta below. Salta sits in the middle of the Lerma Valley and as you'll see in the next two posts, is surrounded by amazing scenery.
