Sucre

We finally made it to Sucre after a long and harrowing bus ride through SW Bolivia. Once we got there, we stayed even longer than we had planned to. Sucre is known as la Ciudad Blanca because of all the white washed buildings. At one point it was the capital of Bolivia and has a very historic and regal air to it. It's definitely the most beautiful city that we had the chance to visit in this country. There are lots of excursions and hiking opportunities in the area, including a horseback ride to see some dinosaur prints in the rock. Even with all those enticing options, we mostly just strolled around the city and hiked up to a couple nice miradors within the city to take in the view. Sucre is beautiful and relaxing and I'd definitely recommend the Surena (the city's cerveza) to have with the famous Bolivian dish "Pique a lo Macho" which is a huge pile of beef on fries with a good amount of spice. Bolivian's version of soul food in my estimation.

This was a steep hike up a hill to the mirador for a view of Sucre

Beautiful old churches are laid out all over the city center

A colorful colectivo. You can catch one and go just about anywhere in Sucre for about a quarter.

Breakfast at the market. This was some strange warm, corn drink that everyone else was ordering. Interesante...

The market is so colorful with picturesque piles of produce everywhere you look. Unfortunately the whole place smells like fish, but you wouldn't guess that from the photos :P

The hostel owner's son

Our cute little hostel, the Wasi Masi. Definitely one of the reasons why we stayed here two extra days!

Place your vote here... in the trash! Nice political sense of humor.

Beautifully manicured central plaza

This sums up Sucre for me. Yummy breakfast on the patio at our hostel with fresh juice, excellent coffee, and Marquez. Sigh...
